This is a recent blithering sent out to the locals. I think I might include
these "thinking attacks" in my regular stuff.

Actually, this isn't important at all.
Traditionally, sumi-e brushes were made out of cat whiskers. I was
thinking, "Hmm, that would be a lot of whiskers for, say, a number 010
size brush. Probably 18 to 20 cats worth".
So what I want to know is, did the craftsmen who made these brushes
for the sumi-e artists raise cats also? Assuming a cat's whiskers grow
back in three months, you get four "harvests" a year per cat. If you
had 40 cats, you could manufacture eight number 010 brushes a year. Not
an inviting prospect. The way I figure it, to turn a profit you would
have to have about (give or take a dozen) 2260 cats considering a number
010 size brush probably cost about the equivalent of $.80 (adjusted for
inflation).
I don't think traditional sumi-e brush making is a field I want
to go into.
